Created in 1834, the Trans-Aquitaine Canal is an artificial waterway that connects the main lakes in the Landes: Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet, Lake Biscarrosse-Parentis and the small lake of Biscarrosse. Cazaux Sanguinet lake is located between the departments of Landes and Gironde, between the country of Born and the country of Buch. It extends over more than 5,600 hectares and is the largest lake in the Landes. It is bordered by pine forests, sandy beaches and hiking trails. In Port Maguide, you will find a leisure center that offers water activities (excursions and equipment rental): pedal boats, kayaks, windsurfing boards, boats, towed buoys, water skiing... If you like to take the height, you can also do your baptism of parasailing and enjoy a panoramic view of the Landes lake, the Landes forest and the Atlantic Ocean.
The Biscarrosse golf course, the Aqualand water park and the central beach ideal for family swimming (safe swimming for children) are located next to the nautical base, to the south of the lake on the Biscarrosse-Plage side.
Biscarrosse Lake (3,600 hectares), sometimes called South Lake, is located between the municipalities of Biscarrosse to the north, Parentis-en-Born to the east, Sainte-Eulalie-en-Born and Gastes to the south. It is rich in fish and attracts fishing enthusiasts, especially near the port of Gastes. Several competitions are held there every year.
After your fishing trips in Biscarrosse Lac, your nautical activities, your baths in fresh water and your walks or bike rides, you can visit the seaplane museum which traces the history of the seaplane through exhibitions. , models, parts of apparatus, videos and photographs. It is home to several equipped beaches (notably Navarrosse) and a nautical center near the museum.
Fishing friends, you will find slipways near the seaplane museum and the Maison de l’eau et de la pêche, in the place called “Le Taron” very close to Lake Biscarrosse.
Located between these two large lakes, the small pond of Biscarrosse is the favorite playground for fishermen. This lake in the Landes of 75 hectares is of great ecological interest and is classified Natura 2000. It is a precious natural reservoir for fish and an ideal setting for fishing. It is home to pike, zander, perch, carp, roach, eel and bream, among others. From the small lake of Biscarrosse, you can quickly walk to the city center or to the seaplane museum. From the lake, you can take the D146 to reach the beaches of Biscarrosse, renowned for their superb surf spots.
